Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic Member Appreciation
Nebraska Cattlemen field staff, Talia Goes and Mackenzie Johnston, recently attended the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic. The Classic was hosted February 15th-23rd in Kearney at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds. The weather made for an interesting week, however it was fantastic to get to visit with numerous members throughout the week.
Nebraska Cattlemen presented member appreciation awards to two exhibitors during the week of the Classic, Morgan Cattle Partners of Burwell, NE and Rains Simmental of Dorchester, NE. These awards included supplies from both Sullivan Supplies and H & H Show Supplies.

Cory Rains with Rains Simmental (left) exhibited the Champion Simmental Bull, Reserve % Simmental Bull, and Reserve Simmental Female. He had the following words to say about the Classic, “The 2019 classic was again a great success. The interest in the stock was excellent, as the quality of cattle throughout all breeds were on point. I would like to thank all the buyers and bidders that expressed interest in our offering, as our string of cattle got along well being the high selling bull and both top selling females. It’s always a joy to come to town and talk cattle with breeders and young folks. A big thanks goes out to the crew that helped get the cattle ready as well as the NCC staff for continuing to make this a Premier Event for all ages.”

Morgan Cattle Partners (right) exhibited a Polled Hereford bull, Pen of 5 Heifers, and Junior Cattle at the Classic. Their bull did well, second in class, selling to a repeat buyer and gathering interest in their program. Morgan’s Pen of 5 Heifers were repeat champions again this year. Roger Morgan had the following statement regarding the Classic, “The weather wasn’t the greatest, actually it was pretty bad, but we had a great week at the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic. The Classic is a week we look forward to every year in February. Like many other multi-show exhibitors, we are there talking with cattlemen and competing against other breeders all week long. These breed shows are also an avenue of advertisement for the cattle at home as well as those you sell here. The Pen of 5 Heifer show is one of my favorites as it shows the depth of quality cattlemen produce. It was an honor to be picked Champion again this year, but our true pride comes from a calf that was out of one of our previous Pen of 5 Heifers being sold and exhibited at this year’s Classic. It’s a great event that brings all aspects of the cattle industry together to one place.”
Overall, the Classic was a great week to talk to members and to update cattlemen on the benefits of becoming a Nebraska Cattlemen member. We look forward to attending next year!
