Managing Supply and Price Issues with Modified and Wet Distillers Grains
Over the past six months, distillers grains have been priced at 70 to 200 percent the price of corn, and either overflowing on your feed pads or shut completely off at the feedyard. While many frustrations in the past year are out of your direct control, you can develop a plan and scenarios for managing the nutritional disruptions many have experienced.
In March and April, as ethanol demand and production waned, many feedyards were faced with either supplies being reduced by up to half or dwindling completely. Below are some considerations if you must increase or decrease distillers in your rations.
