Your Computer Will Gather NC News for You
By using free RSS (Really Simple Syndication) software you can give the task of gathering the latest news from NC (and other sources you value) to your computer.
NC news and information is available through RSS feeds, which use a technology called XML (Extensible Markup Language) to deliver news to your desktop or Web browser. The software creates a favorite place or bookmark on your internet browser.
The free RSS software will tell your computer to gather new information whenever NC adds something to its website. You tell the RSS reader what feeds you want to receive and the RSS reader will periodically check your feeds and display the news updates for you. This way, you can always have the latest NC updates. No more browsing to your favorite sites one by one! Just read the updates that interest you.
In addition, you can designate which NC information you want your computer to gather. For instance, you could select any or all of the following: Calendar, Post newsletter, Today's News newsletter, Nebraska Cattleman magazine, or NC new releases.
One of the simplest RSS readers is Google Reader (http://reader.google.com). Bloglines (www.Bloglines.com) is another good one. Another option if you use Internet Explorer 7.0 is to use the built in RSS reader. As you go through the process, you might see terminology called “Feeds” or “XML”, which generally means the same thing. Many news websites provide RSS feeds. Sometimes they provide a link to their feeds with icons like these: or
